  2. It’s just crazy, how many flowers there are when you look up into those hills. I’m glad you posted this because I’ve never seen this kind of display. In the first (and third) photo, the orange way up in the mountains – are those flowers, too? Cal poppies so high up? Or something else. Love the “savoring every hundredth of a second” quote. And the Sam Abel one – did I tell you that one or two bloggers I used to follow spoke very enthusiastically about taking his workshop? Have you ever considered that? He’s supposed to be an excellent, inspiring teacher.
Tidy tips – love that name, that flower, and that photo. 🙂 In ‘Vibrant’ it’s interesting that the hillsides facing different directions have different flowers – probably because of the light. I think ‘Carrizo Plain and Hills’ is my favorite image here (along with that sweet Tidy tips). There’s a comforting, natural flow to the sky, hills, bushes, and wildflowers, all fitting together in that photo. And I really like the way ‘White and Goldfield’ becomes an abstract image of layered colors and textures.
What a treat, Jane, thanks again. 🙂

    • Hi Lynn, Love reading your response. We were astonished by the display! I’m pleased you could pick up the super bloom vibe from my photos…it’s rather overwhelming to capture. You know the feeling, I’m sure. I love Abell’s work and those in his generation of Nat Geo photogs. For now, just borrowing his quotes. 🙂 Happy you enjoyed these blooms, thanks so much! 🌼🤗

  14. Oh Jane, this was such a huge treat, thank you. We drove to SoCal in March with the intention of stopping at Carrizo Plain and there were so many storms then that the roads were closed due to flooding. So to have this absolutely glorious display of wildflowers was truly wonderful. Your photos are spectacular. I love how you gave us the vast overview and close-ups too. I love those adorable tidy tips, so that close-up was my favorite of this series. But I also soaked up and appreciated the miles and miles of flowers. Thanks so much.

    • Thanks, Jet! We were a bit late this year, but I kept a close watch on the chatter about the roads which were impassable well into the spring. The landscape is so captivating I had to remind myself to shoot some close-ups- agree about those sweet Tidytips. Happy you enjoyed these, it was such fun to be there and capture. 🌼💛🧡💜

  26. Interesting how yellow is such a predominant color in the bloom. I wonder what causes that?

    • An interesting question, Anonymous. I was a little late this year and missed the large swath of purple phacelia that covers much of the plain. Other super blooms I photographed have mostly orange poppies but yellow and purple seem to be prevalent. Thanks very much. 🌼🌼🌼

  27. Different from the one we had here because of the non-flower plants in the desert, but absolutely stunning. I’d like to see a superbloom in California someday, but I was happy with ours and now I can enjoy yours as well. 🙂 Thanks for that! I’ve never seen a yellow flower with white edges on the leaves. Very pretty.

    • Thanks so much, Janet. The desert super blooms are gorgeous with the variety of blooms and succulents and a bit more subtle. The CA super blooms blanket the land and scream, “look at us!” The Tidytips are very pretty flowers. 😄🌼💛
