Yosemite National Park

“Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space.”

  1. Beautiful and majestic! Lots of reflection shots here and they are all wonderful. If I had to pick a favorite it might be the ‘Afternoon Reflection’. The warm golden colors and reflection that reaches all the way to the foreground are very appealing. OK … Yosemite just moved up a few places on my bucket list!

    • Thanks so much, Denise. I found what little water there was in the valley, thankfully. And this little spot near the Ahwahnee Hotel is stunning. It was fairly quiet in the shoulder season– you would go crazy with your lens there — summers to be avoided. 🙂

  2. A terrific series, Jane, with an ending that is hard to look at but I respect you for including it and placing it where you did. It’s a very effective, elegant photograph. Beautiful tones. My other favorites are “Trees and Moon” and “Valley Symmetry.” “Valley” has a classic feeling of completeness. “Trees” demands a little more from the viewer, I think, and I have no problem with that. 😉 I like the various elements there – the lacy silhouettes of the trees and the striated texture of the rock, the deep autumnal colors, all balanced but lively. And you just posted more! It was a fruitful trip, wasn’t it?

    • Thanks, Lynn, for these encouraging thoughts on those images. The trees add such depth especially in silhouette. A slight autumnal feel, but not as golden yet compared to higher elevations. Slowly going through the batch. Wish I had more time to do close up work- you’d have gone crazy with that! Hope your trip was fab.

  3. Hi Jane I haven’t been around for a while in the blogging world but I am glad to see that you are still around. It is a pleasure reflecting on your reflectitive (if there is such a word – there is now) photography.

  6. So beautiful, Jane. The light, reflections, colors. The black and white at the end was a very powerful image. So emotional. 😀😀

  7. Such beauty! My one and only visit to Yosemite was way back in 1978. I’d love to go back and see it with “older” eyes.

  12. One of my favorite places in the whole world, Jane! Unbelievably beautiful images! Sad to see the burned area, but I’m sure you know those trees are hardwired to throw out more seeds when a fire strikes. Praying for rain for California!

    • Thank you, Terri. A most fun photography trip. It was a great time to visit- solitary morning hikes and few crowds. I was lucky to find some water for the reflections, it was so dry. Hopefully the burned areas will regenerate quickly. Glad you enjoyed these images! 🙂

  13. Jane, great photos, as usual! But a big question…where’s Bob? Is he hiding in at least one photo? You may want to think about this…as some sort of game for your followers…Where’s Bob Challenge 😎7

  14. I visited Yosemite 25 years ago. It was absolutely spectacular. I did a series of paintings from that trip later. I’ve long been an Ansel Adams fan, and I must say, your photography is stunning. Your talent is right up there, and thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.

  15. Beautiful shots, although sad to see the aftermath of that fire. I love the black and white tunnel views, and all the reflections are stunning! You make we want to go back, despite stories I’ve heard of huge crowds in places these days.

    • Hi Sarah, We lucked out going in shoulder season– we had some areas to ourselves on our hikes and the crowds were nothing like the summer craziness. Glad you like the photos – I was thrilled to find some scarce water for the reflections and I always “see” in black and white when I’m shooting. Thanks, Ansel, and thank you for viewing! Hope you get back someday. 🙂

  19. There is such beauty within Yosemite, Jane, and you capture it as well as anyone. Incredible opening shot; it sets the stage for all that follows. The different contrasts to Yosemite you create with the color and then the B&W is how I envision and dream of this place… both styles highlight the majesty of the place. The domes of Yosemite in B&W bring me back to the first time I ever viewed photos of the site (of course, Ansel Adams), so they hold a more profound history with me, but how I love the colors because it makes me excited and in my mind, I begin planning a trip I must take there soon 🙂 In this series, I found myself more awed by the reflections you created… awesome.

    • Hi Randall, I am so happy you are inspired– thanks very much. I can’t help but see in black and white there as I envision Ansel in these same places. It was thrill, too, seeing the colors and reflections which I hope exude the feeling of the beauty and quiet I was experiencing. I’m glad this park is on your bucket list- you will be in awe. Hope all is well! 🙂

  25. A nice little getaway with beautiful results, Jane. The burned areas feel alien, devoid of life. Kinda sad, though I know it’ll grow again, but never quite the same.

  26. excellent shots Jane! I love the second shot! Adams would of loved that one I bet. Love the reflections!
I went down one winter and took my chest waders. I waded down the Merced river looking for spots that nobody would go be able to go to…….and I did find one!

    • Thank you, Wayne. I was happy to have that rising mist in the morning sun. So glad you enjoyed these. There was very little water in the Merced so I felt lucky to get the reflections. I just checked out your wading shot– excellent– and brave! 🙂
