Land and Sea

  1. Love the photo “Couples”. The vastness of space yet the couples, tiny, but grand at the same time as they give the space perspective.

  6. The last photo might be my favorite. 😉 (And I think you bent down to make the heart land in just the right place!) I like “Couples” for the misty, peaceful feeling it embodies. I was just reading about the Japanese concept of “ma” which is about the space or pause between things, people, etc. I see the empty space that’s full of possibilities in that photo. I like the herd of deer seen through the veil of tall grass, too. Some of them disappear or almost disappear. Rocks and meadows, land and sea – fruitful perennial themes.

    • Love reading your thoughts, Lynn. I am pleased to learn the term “ma”- I really liked the spaces and juxtaposition in that image of the couples (and that there are three). The use of “negative” space is really a “positive” and is so important to think about when making images. I love your idea of empty space as “full of possibilities”. Thanks so much! 🤗

      • With our Western conditioning, I think it can be hard to think about negative space. For me, it’s a little easier during processing. Maybe while I’m out there it’s somewhere in the back of my mind and I’m not conscious of that. In any case I agree, it’s important!

  8. I’ve such a fascination with where the two meet, so I was taken by your Bodega and California Cliffs photos as they juxtapose the rock texture with that of the tempestuous waves.

  9. Love your image ‘Couples’ which could have fit into your previous post with tiny people! The couples placement and the fact that there are three makes the photo special. I ‘love’ the last image too, because of the subject and colors.

  15. A wonderful collection! Your Morning Meadow image very much captures the mood of our trip to the beach earlier today – a sunny/misty/golden outing along the dunes.

  20. Such a beautiful coast and you brought out the very best in it, in your photos here Jane. No wonder I chose to spend my whole adult life on this coast. Really appreciated the Rachel Carson quote, a lovely way to begin. Every photo was a loving statement. My two favorites were the cypress path, magnificent for the shapes and shadows; and I found “Peeking Through” especially sweet and unique. Truly a pleasure, my friend.

    • Thank you, Jet, for your thoughtful comment. Always great to read your response. This is the first time we’ve lived away from the coast in decades. Fortunately, we aren’t too far! Pleased you noted those images, both shot on magical Sea Ranch. Take care and enjoy the cooler fall weather. 🙂
