When that ol’ moon gets-a big and bright
It’s a supernatural delight
Everybody’s dancin’ in the moonlight”

Wonderful shots Jane! I like to include the moon in my landscapes when possible too. When there’s a bald sky it is all I need to add some interest. I like ‘Big Sur and Moon’ for the beautiful color and peaceful feeling. ‘Goodnight San Francisco’ with that moon over the city lights has me wondering about all the lives below.

Wow, Jane, this was such an elegant and impressive celebration of the moon. There is so much going on behind the scenes in every one of these photos with finding an eclipse, getting weather that allows a photo, actually getting a photo of the moon with all THAT entails… Great quotes and lyrics to accompany this moon fest too, I especially liked the Buzz Aldrin quote. Although I really enjoyed each photo here, my favorite was the Big Sur masterpiece with the colors, softness, composition; and runner-up was the last one of SF with the hills, houses, title and exquisite clouds.

Hi Jet, So nice to read this- thanks very much. It’s true, what goes into a shot isn’t always on the mind of the viewer – like the 4AM wake-up call or the stress and disappointment of poor weather. Happy you pointed out Big Sur and Goodnight SF – both images have wonderful memories of creating them. Appreciate, as always, your thoughtful and helpful comments. 😊🌗

What a treat, Jane! I’m glad there are some crescent moons here – I love them as much as full moons. And it’s fun to see a Buzz Aldrin quote. About 12 years ago at our NYC apartment, there was a large bumblebee that kept buzzing around one window (5th floor, no plants there). We named him Aldrin. 😉
We didn’t get to see this last eclipse but these photos bring it home beautifully. It’s nice that you were inspired to bring together a whole collection of moon photos. As I said on FB, I really love the second photo. The third at the Golden Gate is superb! The fourth adds another dimension with those pinprick stars all around, giving one a sense of wonder. I like the presence of the moonrise in Pasadena because it puts me right there. The blend of colors in the Big Sur photo is beautifully done, reminiscent of a Japanese woodblock print. The final image makes me think of “Goodnight, Moon” with great fondness. It’s a warm, inclusive kind of image. 🙂

Wow, Lynn, thank you so much for this great feedback- much appreciated! The evening was stunning here in LA so that was lucky. It did get me inspired to go back again to my many moon event images, some re-edited using the improved masking in the newest version of LR. I smiled at the naming of your local bumblebee. You are funny! 🐝 Hope all is well up north! 😊🌗

It’s fun to be able to go back and improve photos. Not having taken any PS/LR classes, there are lots of tools I wasn’t using even 2 or more years ago and the new masking has been really nice to use. Aldrin! He (she?) would come and buzz around that window all the time, we couldn’t figure out why but it was a nice bit of nature to have in a very urban setting. Now Joe says, “I wonder what happened to Aldrin? He never calls, he never texts…” 😉
LikeLiked by 2 people
Agree about the LR tools. Fortunately they are making them much more intuitive. Adobe has some excellent tutorial videos- Julieanne Kost is a fave. I bet you already know that😉 So fun about Aldrin…a great inside joke for you and Joe. 🥰
LikeLiked by 1 person
I actually have watched some of those tutorials and I like Julianne Kost – do you know her book, “Passenger Seat?” But I feel like I’ve never been as organized as I should have been about learning LR. It is what it is, right?
p.s. Joe enjoyed this post, too. 🙂

Yes, it is. As you can see from my postings I’ve gotten into bird photography. It’s take patience and persistence. I’m looking for animal behavior rather than static images. Your photographs continue to inspire. Thank you for posting them.

Birds are a challenging yet rewarding genre. It’s obvious you’ve been putting the time in. It’s especially exciting when you catch a gesture or expression with birds and animal life. 👏🏻😀Thank you for the inspiration, too, Tim.

Yes I purchased the Bird Photograph class from Matt K at Mattk.com a couple of months ago and was inspired. Matt is an excellent teacher and offers such good advice. Besides the technical knowledge he emphasizes washing bird behavior and being patient. The latter is one of the most important things I’ve learned.
You’re welcome.

Ok, Jane, you got me once again. I was going to say that they were all good but the super moon and the bay bridge was just fantastic…and then you have to throw in three more. The Big Sur shot I probably like as much for the land-ocean part as the moon and for some reason I really like that last shot. The moon and what’s around it is really interesting and then something about the way the buildings and lights are in the city seem like steps or ?? I can’t describe or pinpoint it but it’s just lovely.

Hi Janet, This is so nice to read- thank you very much! You’ve highlight the shots I’m really proud of- appreciate the affirmation. 🙂I’m glad my love of Big Sur shines through, the Bay Bridge night was simply astounding and the last shot of the moon and hills of SF was a real thrill. The mystery behind all those windows. The compression of the hills with a telephoto makes it seem like you can touch them.😉
