Joshua Tree National Park

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever…it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

  5. Looks like a wonderful visit to Joshua Tree NP … and your photos certainly suggest so! Do you go on these adventures by yourself? My husband doesn’t like going with me when I’m shooting so I am always by myself. I need to start venturing a little further on my own.

    • Thanks, Denise. We managed to visit twice in the last year and each time, we experience new things. Yes, my husband is a dedicated photo partner who scouts and lugs when needed. I think that’s unusual!

  6. Great series of Joshua Tree, it is like an open invitation to visit, and while I’ve forever heard of Joshua Tree and have friends tell me how wonderful it is, it is like I’ve been there… After viewing this series, especially the last panoramic shot, it does seem as if I am in the middle of it all. Wonderful.

    • Hi Randall, I’m your spokesperson for the National Parks. 😀 After moving to southern California, I finally got to experience this unusual park and it explains why so many people love the desert. Pleased you like photos of this otherworldly place. Thanks so much. 🙂

  9. It was a serene visit you gave us here to Joshua Tree NP, Jane, thanks so very much. I love this park and the Joshua trees, and your photos do a wonderful job of expressing the uniqueness and utter beauty here. I had many favorite photos, as always in your posts, but my very favorite one is the third one, “Joshua Road,” for the stark and vast landscape you captured of this amazing place on earth.

    • Hi Jet, Pleased you enjoyed these photos from my latest visit and that you feel they capture the feel of the park. The different elements, rocks, cacti and Joshua Trees make for a busy day of photographing! The starkness does have its special kind of beauty. Thank you so much. 😊

  12. Yea, more from Joshua Tree! It’s a nice selection. The framing and tones in “Joshua Road” are just beautiful, that one is a classic. You might guess that the next photo appeals to me, too, and you’d be right. 🙂 It’s good to see your love for those rounded rocks – what an amazing pileup of them in “Desert Landscape.” The colors are beautiful there, too. Really, it’s another world, as you say in the last black and white. The absence of color works very well there, at least in your hands it does! Admirable work, Jane!

  13. Oddly enough I’m more drawn to the boulders than the Joshua Trees this time. You seem to commune with their unique character. I almost didn’t recognize you with the new Gravatar. 😉 Nice. 💞

    • Hi Gunta, Agree, the boulders are really intriguing. The shapes feel lifelike in some ways. And yes, I finally updated my bio photo, thanks! And I hope all is well with you. We are getting a little rain today, hooray!

  17. What a wonderful place, I am so sorry that I never got to visit it, but there are so many wonderful parks in the USA.

    • Thank you, Jude. You’re right– so many gorgeous parks in the US. I can see that Joshua Tree might take a back seat to blockbusters like Yosemite, Bryce and Glacier, especially when visiting from other countries. Now we are just a couple of hours from JT, otherwise I may never have gone.

  28. These are all fabulous but I love the monochrome images the best of all! Winter must be a great time to visit Joshua Tree – we were there in July and it was HOT!!!

    • Thanks, Sarah! And so glad you like the monochromes especially. I think this landscape works really well for them. Oh yes, winter is the best time… you are brave for going in summer– temps can reach 120F! Regardless, I’m glad you saw it! 🙂

  36. Wow, Jane, these photos are so beautiful! The Joshua Trees are far taller than those around Las Vegas. Is the beautiful, distant mountain a part of the San Gabriel range?

    Liked by 3 people

    • Thanks, John. Some of the Joshua Trees are huge- I need to research how old the biggest ones must be. I was so surprised to see the snow-covered mountain – here’s what the NPS website says: “Within the park there are six distinct mountain ranges: the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the southwestern part; the Cottonwood, Hexie, and Pinto Mountains in the center; and the Eagle and Coxcomb Mountains in the eastern part.” The San Gabriels surround Pasadena which is pretty far from JT. Appreciate your interest in these photos. 🙂
