I googled ice plant. I have never heard of it before. They did not look like what you are showing. What is an ice plant?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hi Lisa, Ice Plants is an invasive species that is found all over CA. It does have various colored blooms and the succulents range in colors of greens, yellows and reds. Despite its negative reputation, it’s fun to photograph in the right light.

That Point Reyes cove photograph is beautiful, Jane. Yum! 🙂 It’s fun seeing the pelicans, too, and I really like the narrow format of the Point Reyes Hiker photo. It breaks up the set very nicely. Ice Plant Party is a fun ending to the set – a surprise party! Happy coastal exploring to you, whenever and wherever!

Thanks, Lynn! This place…it’s a wonderful spot to get lost in photographing. And Mendocino with its dynamic coast is a wonderland. When I remember to do it, I like making panoramas. This was three images stitched together on LR. Sometimes I do them in camera- the Fuji does a great job with panoramas but it takes practice! So glad you enjoyed these favorites from my recent coastal escape. 🙂

I didn’t realize it was a panorama – I’ve hardly experimented with those at all. It’s beautiful! I figured these were from your trip…nice!

These pictures are fantastic. I love that quote by Elizabeth Bishop – it really hit me. I don’t read a lot of poetry, so I didn’t recognize the name, but promptly looked her up and see how accomplished she was. Also, I’m so glad you identified the ice plant because I had never seen them before and was struck by how different and beautiful they are. Thanks for posting these!

Thanks so much for your visit, BCM. Happy you like the quotes along with the images. I love the Bishop quote, too. There’s a contemporary play that I saw a few years ago by Sarah Ruhl called “Dear Elizabeth” about her correspondence with Robert Lowell. Fascinating woman.
The Ice Plant is all over the west coast, an invasive plant but a beautiful one. 😊

Wonderful series of California coast. I like all the pictures of Point Reyes including your posts previously. Many years ago we tried to tour the area only to find out, once we got there, it we all covered with fog! We’ll have to go back there when we visit sf next time.

The Ansel Adams quotation is doubly interesting because his notion of images lapsing into silence would mean a stilling not only of photography but of his earlier love, classical music.
