Tulips always bloom together but never shy to stand alone, when we see the dress. Always paying attention to the little things Jane can’t wait for your next piece of art.

These are awesome Jane! I love all your tulip images very much. Of course it was Tiny Tim and his ukulele that made the song well-known. I can remember seeing him on TV. 🙂

Hi Denise, Thank you! These have been fun to make. Yes… Tiny Tim…definitely a childhood memory, but I felt like I had to credit the songwriter. In looking it up, apparently TT collapsed while singing this song. Not to end on a low note…

Great job dear.
Yellow tulips now stand for hope and cheerful thoughts. Give a yellow tulip bouquet to a good friend as a caring get-well gift. Yellow is also the color of friendship, which makes it great for a just-because floral gift.

It’s funny how we are attracted to the same subjects, over and over. Somewhere, I have a collaged painting of yellow tulips (they were a little fresher than these – :-)). The tulips made me think of dancing, so I found a small photo of Fred Astaire dancing, used the outline of his body, and glued cutouts of that onto the paper. The whole painting never gelled at all but I saved it – I’ll send you a picture. In more recent years I’ve enjoyed photographing spent tulips – but you are really mastering the subject. Beautiful. 🙂 In this series, my favorites are the two with groups of flowers – I think lots can be read into them; they’re like a staid, old group portrait of some official association gone wild and unruly.

HI Lynn, We are two peas in a pod. 🙂 This has been fascinating to work on. I am pleased with the groups of tulips and can’t help but see dancing figures, too. I’m looking forward to shooting different colors…maybe I’ll combine colors in a group..( that just came to me). So many possibilities. Looking forward to seeing your Fred Astaire creation. Thanks so much! 🤗

The photographs you’ve usually shown are outdoors, so the white backgrounds in this set have me wondering whether you made these portraits indoors. Yellow and white are such a cheerful combination.
Your mention of Al Dubin as the lyricist for “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” sent me looking for more information about him (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Dubin). I didn’t know he wrote the words for four of the songs in the famous movie “42nd Street” and that his “Lullaby of Broadway” won the 1936 Academy Award for best original song. Despite his songwriting accomplishments, his life seems to have been somewhat unhappy.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, this project is indoors against a backlit window shade. Trying different flowers and colors. Glad you like the yellow. I looked up Al Durbin as well, since I knew that Tiny Tim, who made the song famous, didn’t write it. 🙂 Appreciate your research- had never heard of him and he was quite accomplished.

My favorite flower….and that’s why we made the trip to the Netherlands…I had to see The Keukenhof Gardens….covers 79 acres of TULIPS!! 7 MILLION tulip bulbs planted by hand every year!! (Along with some other flowers) The colors are so vibrant! Artistically landscaped…Tulips for as far as the eye can see….the different shapes and sizes…you’ve never seen most of those over here…overwhelms the senses…just stunning! For me: like a kid in Disney World! Happy Place!! And your photos brought me right back there! And you brought them to life…gave them personalities….reminded me of dancers/ballerinas…so graceful….loved your photos!

As I get older, i have started to appreciate the beauty of fading flowers. I bring in a magnolia bud about once a year to enjoy the bloom for a day. But the last few years, I’ve been keeping it for a couple of days. It’s still beautiful, though browning and slightly curling.
