“The jacaranda in the courtyard has put on its bloom. This purple can’t be ignored, it’s like a tree singing. The walk down Londres Street to the market is a concert: the small jacaranda on the the corner hums the tuning note, then all others in the lane join in.”
~Barbara Kingsolver
Jacaranda, the beauty in purple n green. GREAT indeed.

I apologize – I didn’t realize how far behind I was until I saw this! The post oozes with lavender love. 🙂 Really well done. Beautiful contrast between flowers & foliage in the first photo. #3, with the fallen blossom in the yucca, is utterly fabulous! Oh, those colors! The 4th one – “old and New” has a polka-dotted feeling that’s graphically stunning. You have everything is a perfectly flat plane, which often doesn’t happen in photos like that one. The pendulous panicles make me think of Niki de Saint Phalle. Right? 🙂 I like the juxtaposition of looking up and looking down, one after the other. Excellent, Jane, that’s the way to take advantage of LA streets!!

Jacaranda trees are very lovely – but man are they messy 😦 There was one outside our apartment building when we lived in LA, and the blooms just tracked everywhere. So I started being the good neighbor and sweeping up the sidewalks for everyone. But then it riled up the bees and wasps and I got quite a few stings for my effort! No good deed goes unpunished hahaha! But still – I can’t argue how lovely they are.

Hi MB, Ha! Good story! Yes, there’s an undercurrent of dismay with the Jacarandas…their magnificence leads to clean ups. (I love photographing the blooms on the ground.) Thanks for enjoying this and sharing your story. 💜🙂

Wow! That’s a wonderful purple, lovely. And the quotation is great, because I’ve never seen one, and if it was a pop quiz, I’d have guessed “jacaranda” was some kind of dance. I’ve heard a lot of versions of a big band classic, “Deep Purple,” in that song, that’s twilight, but the lyrics work for this tree, “When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls…”

I love Jacaranda trees so much! We can’t grow them here in the UK but when I go to Lisbon I love to do so when they are in bloom all over the city. And in Santiago (Chile) we saw them in the parks and city squares – so beautiful 🙂 And your photos really do them justice – I especially like the last two, looking up and then down on the ground. Such glorious shades!

Loved and read all of Barbara Kingsolver a long time ago…she could paint a picture with words…and this brought back so many memories of our 18 winters in Tucson, Az…had the most magnificent jacaranda next to our bedroom window…stunning!! And purple being one of my most favorite colors in ‘blooming things’, I was mesmerized by its beauty! Had never seen nor heard of this gorgeous tree before moving out there…just made me so happy looking out my window and seeing that purple! Called it “My Happy Tree”…it spoke to me! always put a smile on my face….sorry we can’t grow those here in NJ…Your photos were gorgeous and allowed the beauty of the jacaranda to really shine…simply beautiful…your ‘artistic eye’ never fails to capture the essence/beauty…Luvya Barbie

I wish I could share my video with you that I took from around the corner of my daughter’s house. There are blocks around her area that have jacaranda and it’s so pretty in the spring, except for the shedding, of course. But it’s so beautiful, and purple is my daughter’s favorite color, so she really loves to walk around and see those trees. I can try and email it to you. These are beautiful what you’ve shared. Nice and close up.
