Big Sur looks like such a special place driven by it lots of times but can you believe I haven’t stopped by?! What a dork! But it’s been on my list for a while now definitely hitting that this summer. Your pictures always make me want to go somewhere:) The black and white with the fog is so GREAT!
Thank you, Guat! Big Sur is one of my favorite places in the world. I hope you get there someday soon. (and you are not a dork!😁) We lucked out with great, clear weather and then some classic fog. So glad you are inspired by these. 🙂
One of the family vacations we took long ago was from LA to SF, after visiting a few relatives in LA. The idea was to take Highway 1. When my dad mapped it out, he thought if we went up the coast, it may become a two day or a three day trip, to see Big Sur, Bixby Bridge, Carmel, Ft. Ord (that’s where my dad took his Basic Training after enlisting) before arriving in SF. The 5 was too far inland dad decided, and we took the 101 instead, which took us right into the city. We did see the big blimp hangar at Moffett Field.
What a great memory, David! Great choice on the part of your Dad. It’s one of the most spectacular rides in the country, albeit a bit harrowing at times! The 5 is faster but pretty awful.
A wonderful collection to commemorate our ‘post vaccine’ freedom. ‘Big Sur and Fog’, and ‘Fog Blanket’ are two that spoke to me. The conditions and B&W layered feeling are perfect. And I love the foggy phenomenon and abstract quality in my second pick.
Hi Denise, Finally getting to my replies. 🙂 Made me smile that you highlighted those in particular. Two faves. Felt lucky in some respects that our drive back down the coast was foggy to capture that classic look. Big Sur on the other hand was surprisingly clear- wish I was better at shooting night skies, the stars were amazing. Thanks so much for letting me know your reaction- much appreciated. 🙂
I love Big Sur and Fog. Great composition and conversion to black and white, Jane. And The Bridge is always a pleasure to see, especially lit as it was.
Hi Steve, Happy the classic Big Sur caught your eye… that was exciting to see. And SF and the GG were a welcome celebration of freedom. Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts. 🙂
What wonderful images!! I was going to try to pick out a favourite but I can’t, I love them all! Although maybe the simplicity of the clear day shot, and the fog rolling in, speak to me the most?
I’m curious how you get your images to look so crisp in your blog as I find having to resize mine for uploading somewhat diminishes the resolution, sometimes to too great an extent. Yours always look good!
Thank you, Sarah. I’m happy you highlighted the ocean shots- I love the variety that you can get, especially in Big Sur from the cliffs.
I export my images through Lightroom and upon export, resize to fit at a width of 1,024 pixels at a resolution of 72 pixels per inch. I’m glad you think the resolutions looks good.
Thanks for the reply Jane. I think I’m having to downsize mine more than that to get them to upload and even then it often hangs. I did have some issues uploading to start with which my hosting service, Bluehost, addressed but maybe they didn’t fully resolve the problem. I may have another chat to them!
Whether it is foggy or brilliant sunshine your photos are always beautiful, Jane. The Golden Gate Bridge looks gorgeous in the sunset and I like the minimalistic ocean pictures.
Thank you so much, Peter. It was great to have variations in weather on this trip. Happy you enjoyed them- SF was a sparkling gem and the coast was a most welcome nature escape. 🙂
Start at the Golden Gate the high star/Fate**Coastline Aqua water finest wine**On a clear day Godly water and pray**Big stir and fog meet friends on a cabin log**Pigeon point Mustard treat yourself to sweet custard**Wave break and rocks Stay happy time goes quick**Great Escape we all need that Happy Mothers Day* to all and to everyone that sees this be happy
Thanks, Cornelia, you know it well, I’m sure. Yes, we were there this past week as a first escape and it was glorious. The landslide is repaired so we were able to drive south. Lots of general road repairs happening there along the way. Glad these photos sparked good memories! 😊
Thank you so much Jane for your update on Big Sur roads conditions. Do you have favorite place where you would stay, you could recommend? Sorry to bother you with so many questions. Have a great inspirational week.
Hi Amanda, Big Sur is a sparsely populated region and has some of the most beautiful coastlines, beaches and nature preserves in the country. A stunning and, at times, harrowing drive along the high cliffs over the ocean. Glad you enjoyed the images- thanks so much!
Getting out into wide open spaces is vitally important, even more so under current circumstances. I’m glad you got the chance to go out and enjoy the sea, the sunshine, and your hobby!
Thanks so much, Dries! It’s wonderful how much nature’s beauty lifts the spirit. Such a gift to feel those joyful feelings after this difficult year. Glad you enjoyed what I found with my camera. 😊
What better place to escape to… you certainly captured Big Sur’s very special charm. Superb captures, as usual!
And Happy Momma’s and Grandmom’s Day to you, dear friend!
Thank you, my friend. It was a thrill to get away and be in my favorite places. Happy you enjoyed the landscape photos. Looking forward to the family being together for Mother’s Day! 🌷
