A Brave New Day

“The new dawn blooms as we free it

For there is always light,

if only weโ€™re brave enough to see it

If only weโ€™re brave enough to be it”

  1. Your beautiful photos Jane together with Amanda Gorman’s inspiring words are simply perfect. Thank you.

  2. Great day great post excellent pictures good work

  3. Beautiful, stunning, jaw-dropping images all round, Jane. Marvelous work. Love how each of them are saturated with bold colours and shades. I also love how light prominently shines through as a defining feature of each image, symbolising some kind of hope for a brand new day. Brilliant all round and hope you are well ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Thanks for sharing these amazing photos.

  5. Loved the picturesโ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ

  6. inspiring post: great sceneries

  7. Stunning photography. ๐Ÿ–ค

  8. One of my favorite blogs to have discovered recently!

  9. She is such an inspiration and from such a young person too. Youth has so much to offer that often is overlooked by us older folks. I was unable to watch live but had NPR on so heard her words.

Dawn is such a hopeful time, offering the possibility of something special with each day. Our country is still mired in distrust and hypocrisy but every day we can hope for better and get a little closer.

  10. A brilliant series by Amanda Gormans…. Thank you for sharing the details.

  11. Beautiful โค๏ธโค๏ธ

  12. love how you led us to the closing hope for tomorrow photo ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Stunning, poetic images to go along with Amanda’s verse. They are all wonderful and ‘It’s A Beautiful Day’ stands out to me for the unique way it presents sunrise/sunset.

  14. Can’t talk. GOBSMACKED by this stunning photo gallery! ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Absolutely stunning pictures ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ˜

  16. Things are looking up. Lovely photos, Jane!

  17. These are exhilaratingly dramatic. Wonderful!

  18. Beautiful and remarkable photographs.

  19. I love your photographic style Jane!

  20. What an amazingly wonderful collection of images you show us here Jane.
Love them all!! The light and colors in the first one is fantastic and so are the Remarkable Morning. The photo “A Door Opens” makes me wonder where you have been or where you are. That image is so powerful. All your photos here are unique, each one in its own way.

    • Thank you so much, Anita. It’s fun to revisit photos from my travels, especially feeling pent up and isolated. Our trip to Patagonia was a thrill and where I shot the first at Torres Del Paine and A Door Opens at one of the incredible glaciers there. Remarkable Morning is in Australia at the rocks called the Remarkables ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy you enjoyed this celebration!

  21. What I think is WOW. Amazing shots, and each one certainly exhibits your level of skill when it comes to using a camera. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  22. Wow, beautiful view. I wish I could come there one time.

  23. Everything related to nature is good which is nature.

  24. A beautiful collection of images for a whole beautiful new era. So happy for you and all my American friends, and for the world. The adults are back in charge. Oh and Amanda Gorman is a STAR!

  25. These photos are absolutely gorgeous – and I teared up when she read that poem!

  26. Your images are wonderful, Jane. Inspiring. They match perfectly with the optimism of Amanda’s poem. There’s a wonderful TedTalk of Amanda talking about why she writes. She is an inspiration!

    • Hi Patti, She truly is an inspiration. I appreciate you letting me know about the TedTalk…will definitely look up. Thanks so much for stopping by and I’m happy you enjoyed this celebration. ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. These are beautiful I have a photography account on this put nobody looks at my stuff

  28. Fantastic photos! They are all superb!

  29. awsome pictures . The last makes me think of a French painter of the end of the XIX century/ behinning 20th
    Love โค

  30. THESE. ARE. SPECTACULAR! Thanks so much for posting plus Gormanโ€™s words?! Extra impact. Wasnโ€™t she amazing? So much so I ordered her book. I was so impressed by her and her ability to inspire hope. These pictures you posted match the beauty of her message and the promise of a new day coming. Even when I canโ€™t travel your pictures take me there and give me the feelings. Thanks.

  31. Loved the pictures. “A light shines” and “It’s a beautiful day” are my favorites though.

  32. It was a beautiful moment on a day that filled a lot of hearts with gratitude, relief, and – dare I say it? – some hope, finally. I love that youth was represented so powerfully on that day. We need more of that! Thanks for bringing the inauguration and its good feelings back, Jane – the news cycle is so short these days that it’s already beginning to feel like it happened some time ago. I’m not surprised that you had no trouble choosing positive images from your travels and from close to home – they reflect your basic nature, I think. “It’s a Beautiful Day” really appeals to me because it has a quality of bridging opposites – there are the rain and the darkness, but there is the sun and so much beauty, too. Life is like that.

    • Well said, Lynn. I think many of us are feeling lighter and more hopeful especially witnessing the brilliance of Amanda’s poignant recitation.
I’m so pleased at your interpretation of Beautiful Day…it’s exactly what I was thinking when I included it in this photo essay. I think you get me. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for your steadfast support. It means a lot. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿค—

  33. Reminding me that the world is a beautiful place. Thank you, for making a difference to my morning.

  34. Love that first photo, very striking. Amanda’s poem, she was talking about “to make a difference, you need to be a difference.” Most people, however, think to make a difference, it needs to be lofty. It doesn’t. It may be as simple as keeping the smallest of promises to someone you know or don’t know.

Stay well, stay extra safe. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hi David, That is so true, what an excellent point. It’s the small acts of kindness that I think will bring the most healing. Glad you enjoyed this celebration of Amanda and new beginnings.
Keep on being safe and healthy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. I’m so glad I discovered your blog, Jane. These are truly gorgeous! You really do have a gift. Thanks for sharing it.

  39. A remarkable series for Amanda Gorman’s poem. Thank you so much for this post, Jane!

  40. Wow, more fabulous images! The first is, I think, the Torres del Paine? They never looked like that when we were there, stunning though they were! And I love your raindrops shot, and the bamboo and glacier too. Such positive messages too ๐Ÿ˜€

  41. A great day it is indeed, especially when I start it by looking at your fascinating images, Jane.

  42. wow these are spectacular! the sunset colours are brilliant thanks for sharing!

  43. Phenomenal images, Jane!! So many of us are choosing the LIGHT and living in love!! I am greatly encouraged to witness so many, now more then ever, choosing the Light of God versus the dark of the world. Thank you for contributing to the light. Bless you!! xo

  44. Love every bit of this beautiful post.

  45. What a fabulous, powerful post, Jane. Well done.

  46. wonderful bamboo forest. I’d love to visit one of those.

think “Itโ€™s A Beautiful Day” might be my favourite.

  47. Great photos as we are used to from you Jane ๐Ÿ™‚

  48. Beautiful images, Jane, but LOL! most poems are not for me, just can’t seem to get into them. But I do hope, more than I can say really, that the US starts moving forward into the light once more – good luck to you all! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you, Adrian. We can finally see the light and have some hope for the future. If you haven’t seen the video, I would highly recommend clicking on the link to watch Amanda’s recitation. Her gestures and rhythm are captivating and inspiring. ๐Ÿ™‚

  49. These are so beautiful. I kept scrolling back and forth..๐Ÿ˜

  50. I’ve just come across your posts and fallen in love! Your photography is stunning and such a great contrast – truly inspirational – and I’m itching to have a go at painting some of them – simply as the inspiration they are to a newcomer to watercolour painting – Blessings Lois

    • How nice to read, Lois. Thanks so much. Iโ€™m happy they provide inspiration…Iโ€™m fascinated by watercolors but havenโ€™t had much success with them yet. Good luck and I really appreciate you following my work.

  51. Your beautiful images breath hope and optimism like the impressive poem of this talented young woman that moved the world!

  52. OMG, Jane such breath taking images. Along with Amanda Gorman’s poem.

  53. Amanda Gormanโ€™s words and performance were remarkable, and just right for the day. What a relief, and I think youโ€™ve captured that in these images…
    Thanks, Jane!

  54. Not only a wonderful collection, but so fitting to Gorman’s words – who in my opinion, was the highlight of Wednesday’s big event.

  55. Beautiful photos to go with a spectacular poem (and poet!).

  56. Jane, these are all beautiful, but that first one is especially stunning.

    janet

  57. Great images Jane ๐Ÿ™‚ Amanda sure was impressive this past Wednesday.

    • Thanks so much, Joe. Amanda sure was and a highlight of the day. I saw her interviewed on Anderson Cooper and he was so taken by her he was pretty much speechless. He finally managed to say, “you’re awesome!” ๐Ÿ˜

  58. Breathtaking pictures, Jane. Thanks for sharing, they brighten up my day! ๐Ÿ™‚

  59. Utterly sublime. Is that first one Whitney summit?

  60. A testament to a live well lived. Kudos!

  61. Gorgeous photos, Jane, to go with our brave new world. Hallelujah! ๐Ÿ™‚

  62. As I am scrolling down my mouth keeps on uttering “whoa”

  63. Lots of implications in your beautiful photo.

  64. I like them all, but the most is “It’s A Beautiful Day”. It’s unusual but impressive shot!

  66. Beautiful examples of the light.

  67. WOW! 5 stars!!! Thank you, Jane!

  68. Beautiful uplifting shots, perfect for your theme. It was looking like a dystopian Brave New World there for a while, happy to see a brave new day instead!

  69. Remarkable photos, Jane. Especially the first two. What a world! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  70. Beautiful! Love this…

  71. I watched her perform this live and thought it was an incredible poem for the ages! Still can’t believe she’s only 22, from Oakland my past hometown and she has a speech impediment. Goes to show what you can do if you your mind to it! Also loved the photos!

  72. Beautiful pictures! Thank you for sharing!

Love to hear what you think...
