for the secret of the sea,
and the heart of the great ocean
sends a thrilling pulse through me.”

I made several toasts
To you and me and the sea
And no one heard.”

Let your soul & spirit fly, into the mystic.”

woo-hoo! What a delightful celebration of the sea with all its moods and colors and brilliance. Your photos are magnificent, Jane, and I really enjoyed the quotes and lyrics too. While I liked every single photo, I found the “Sunset and Moon, Big Sur” absolutely dreamy; and “Clouds and Sea” riotously splendid.

Thanks, Jet! And so glad you enjoyed those two especially. Wouldn’t it be nice to be roaming around Big Sur right now? 🙂

Gorgeous work that makes me miss living near a coast! I love’Clouds & Sea’ for the low horizon and the worthy dedication to the beautiful clouds. Sunset & Moon is a great composition and another favorite … for the dreamy, deep light and colors.

Your reaction means a lot, Denise. Thank you so much. I, too, miss being right on the water but I guess that means being dedicated to spending more time there. (not that it’s too far away!) That shot of Sunset and Moon makes me miss Big Sur. Stay well and we just need to hang on for a little while longer! 🙂

Although these lovely photos have different moods, they do all share a sense of serenity – most welcome in these troubled times. I like them all, but the flight of birds makes the first one extra special. I hope that you had a serene and comforting Christmas

Hi Carol, I sure miss our days wandering the coast. Happy you enjoyed this series. The flight of birds was a lucky moment in Big Sur many years ago. That’s a place for finding serenity. ☺️

Big Sur looks wonderful and indeed a place to find serenity. I had the impression it can be crowded with visitors there, but I expect that is only at a few peak times during the year.
LikeLiked by 2 people
You are right about Big Sur. As is true for many of these special places, social media has driven the crowds here to “get the shot”. In some ways it is good that people are experiencing nature and getting out but it does change the complexion of this serene place. We avoid the peak times for sure. 🙂

Another fine collection, Jane. Sunset and Big Sur attracted me the most basically because it seems the most familiar to what I get to see here inland. All are quite calming despite even the few with a somewhat turbulent sea.
As always I love your choice of quotes although the last saddens me a bit. Morrison and Clapton combined to put out a quarantine protest song because there hasn’t been live music. My respect for both took a hit. Maybe they’d be willing to pay the medical costs for those affected by being in such close quarters and suffering Covid.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Better times are coming to us in the New Year. 🙂

Hi Steve, Glad you like this series of some favorite moments on the coast over the years. Thank you.
You’ve reminded me of that song coming out and yes, I too, was quite dismayed at how tone deaf it is. In light of that, I may have made a different choice of quotes…although that one is fitting for the sea…
Hope you are having a good Christmas and we sure hope that 2021 will be a much better year. Happy shooting and staying creative. Thank you for your blogging friendship. 🙂

I’d keep the quote as it is appropriate for this post. It boggles the mind how someone, or two, can be tone deaf to what is the best for everyone rather than just a few. I’d think especially EC would be more cognizant after his various bouts with addiction’s challenge to his health. He’s lucky to be alive and you’d expect that would inform him better. Well, that’s our opinion and I guess he has his but it is a disappointment.
But your images overshadow that and I always look forward to opening one of your posts for an uplifting few moments enjoying your travels and the images you make of them. I am quite happy that we share our blogs and look forward to more in 2021. 🙂

Thank you, Steve. I really appreciate that and feel the same when I see your shots. This discussion brings me back to a memory of sharing an elevator with EC in NY and not having the nerve to say anything. 😬 I am grateful for our blogging friendship and look forward to a much better and more inspiring year ahead. 🌟

Oh, I bet that is disappointing memory. I was that way every time I met a girl. I’ve only met one person of a similar notoriety. A folkie named Spider John Koerner (wow, I misspelled that and spellcheck actually knows who he is 🙂 ). We did speak and he showed me how he tuned his guitar with a Budweiser bottle’s liquid level. 🙂 After we spoke about how long he had been doing performances he announced later during the show that he was in town for that he was giving it up after a conversation earlier that night. 😮 Guess I’d rather not have spoken with him. Anyway, he did keep recording and performing.

This is such a sensitive group of iamges, Jane, I feel your affection and see the fruit of all the years you have been watching the sea. That long waft of birds disappearing in the first photo, the fog, and the subdued colors are really nice. Your Cannon Beach photo is so balanced with those soft clouds, the sheen of water on the sand, the light on the rocks and the figure placed just so – just perfect! There’s a happy kind of warmth to the Big Sur Moon image, it makes me want to sit down there and just watch the sky. And I like the scale in “Gone Fishing” – I’ve seen that kind of scene here, too – an expanse of sea and one tiny boat, ahhh. The quotes have a fresh simplicity that’s appealing right now. Seascape Escape – everyone could use that right now, thank you!

Fourth image is my pick from this series closely followed by the first one …
The presence of a human element, though a small dot in the vast frame, made it really interesting.
The line of birds in the first image make it so special …
