City Moods

“Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow”

“Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on”

“Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let show

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on”

“Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on.”

RIP Bill Withers

  1. enjoyed the visual stroll ! , eco πŸ™‚

  2. Beautiful post, and lovely photos. Thank you, Jane.

  3. You know, I’m a country girl, but if I had to live in a city, San Francisco would be my choice. Your photos are wonderful. I really enjoy the layers you capture so magically. I think the layers of the city is one of the most amazing things, and they usually shines through one way or another with your photos. Happy Easter!

  4. Hello
I really like the first for the poetic side that blue gives to your image in an absolutely sublime fade compared to the city very clear and sharp
Then the last one this superb carpet of pretty colorful flowers
I hope everything is going well in the face of this health crisis that we are experiencing all over the world, pay attention to you

    • Thanks very much for your kind reaction, Yoshimi. We are faring pretty well. San Francisco started early so we’ve been isolating for 5weeks now. I hope you stay safe and healthy. Take care.

  5. I’m not too bad with morning blues, but they do catch me out later in the day, Jane. Love that photo, and your beautiful tribute. Stay safe and have a peaceful, happy Easter πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Jo. It was a stunning morning, that foggy blue day. The blues sure come and go these days but trying to focus on creating and connecting. Wishing you a happy Easter, too. πŸ’œ

  6. Wonderful tribute to Bill Withers, Jane.

  7. Such a beautiful and moving tribute.

  8. Such beautiful pictures, Jane. And, I love how you incorporated Bill Wither’s song with your images.

  9. Beautiful pictures, Jane.
You can feel that spring is in the air.

  10. These are all nice shots, but the editing stands out too. I was just listening to a Bill Withers CD a few days before he passed. Too bad he had such a fuss with the record companies, it would have been nice to have more of his work.

    • Thanks very much, Dave. I need to read more about Withers’ relationship with his record companies. It is sad that he didn’t record more. I, too, revisited some of his songs and they brought me back. Hope you are doing well. Be safe and stay healthy. πŸ™‚

  11. Wonderful images. I love the first … the way that the top is all blue and the bottom very colorful is really special. Poppies are an alluring favorite … the colors here really pop against the wysteria (I think).

    • HI Denise, Thanks! That blue was amazing early one morning last week. The fog intensified the colors and light. So glad I was awake! πŸ™‚ I’m happy that spring has sprung around the city.. welcome bright spots on our isolation walks. Appreciate you stopping by– hope you have safe and healthy days. πŸ’™

  12. Lovely pictures! This really lifted my spirit. Thank you x

  13. Hoping this finds you healthy and safe. It’s been so strange to see photos of cities usually teeming with people, so silent and empty.

  14. I needed that! What an absolutely perfect post for this nervous Monday morning, missing that wonderful musician.

  15. Lovely pictures, my friend, particularly like Look Up – wonderful lyrics too. πŸ™‚

  16. Such a loss. Thanks I enjoyed this tribute

  17. Very beautiful πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

  18. Such an iconic song. Beautiful photos to accompany these uplifting words, Jane. 😍

  19. Wow! Great photos and loved your pairing with Bill Withers – Lean on Me!! Brilliant

  20. I love this old song. This post makes me look up the song on Youtube and listen to it again. Love your last picture. That one represent city mood to me.

  21. You’re outdoing yourself, Jane. “Morning Blues” followed by those cherry blossoms could have been enough, but that solitary walker surrounded by so much beauty is very poignant. “Lean on Me” was a favorite back in the day, and remains so. Withers was a master – the songs of his that I remember are as relaxed and comfortable as a pair of slippers. (Wisteria and poppies, wow, what a treat!). Take care. πŸ™‚

    • Hi Lynn, I love your image of Wither’s songs…I revisited some of the classics this week and they were so relaxing and brought back memories of the 70s. Glad you enjoyed my wanderings – we lucked out with some fine weather mixed with the much needed rainy days which have brought out the blooms. Hang in there, friend. πŸ™‚

      • I remember hearing there was rain on the CA coast – that’s great. We had lightly rainy days for a rather long time. The moss and everything else loved it. Now we’re heading into a dry spell with more sun and warmer temps, which will be pleasant, but I already find myself worrying if, after a few weeks, everything will be terribly dry. That’s the seesaw we live on, on the West coast. πŸ™‚ Take care, Jane!

        • I was happy it rained heavily all weekend. It kept people in and we are thankful for the rain. You’re right during this crisis, all the usual worries seem to get lost in the shuffle! Take care, too, Lynn. πŸ™‚

  22. ‘Morning blues’ for me please! Ain’t no sunshine.. at the moment. Stay safe!

  23. A wonderful tribute to a great man. Thank you for this Jane.

  24. that final shot with poppies & wisteria (I think?) is just pure cheerfulness.
A very pleasant album, and very well-suited as a tribute to someone with such a pleasant and easy-going style.

    • Hi Robert, I love that description..I was just revisiting some Bill Withers songs and easy-going is a great description. I am thrilled that the flowers are blooming for our big bright spot of the day. Take care and thanks for taking a look. πŸ™‚

  25. A beautiful tribute to Bill Withers. And these times lend the images of your city and the words of the song a particular poignancy.

  26. A colorful and lovely tribute to a great artist, Jane. Thanks so much. Although I liked every single one of your masterpieces here, I especially liked the first one, for its loving embrace of beautiful San Francisco; and the last one, for its cheerful spring message of hope and vitality.

    • Hi Jet, Thanks so much for enjoying my varied moods of late. The city shines despite the sadness around us and loving our careful walks to escape. Happy it’s raining though, especially on the weekend, to keep people home. Take care. πŸ’™

  27. Simply beautiful. Stay well, stay safe.

  28. Lovely series and tribute, Jane. We’re leaning in hard these days. ❀

  29. Bill Withers has been a favorite of mine for many years. What a beautiful and loving tribute. Yup, the poppies and wisteria were special.

  30. Such lovely photography! Mr. Withers would have been honored to have had his words associated with such beautiful and inspiring photographs. Thanks, Jane.

  31. Such lovely photography! Mr. Withers would have been honored to have words associated with these beautiful and inspiring photographs. Thanks, Jane.

  32. Kind of says it all right now…

  33. RIP. My favourite of his songs was ‘Lovely Day’. The poppies and wisteria are a match made in heaven.

  34. This is the first I’d heard about the death of Bill Withers. It prompted me to read an article about him to learn about his life.

  35. Beautiful pictures and sentiment. It’s a great song too. πŸ™‚

  36. Wonderful pictures Jane and a warm tribute to the great Bill Withers.

Love to hear what you think...
