Hi Lisa, No, the atrium is towering. Interesting that you had that perception– the atrium could indeed look like it’s flattened right over you. Thanks for taking my Rorschach Test for me. 🙂
What a fabulous building, and the photograph is excellent. The figures are placed so perfectly – and most of them are uniformly dark and facing away – what luck and skill to find that moment! It’s good that they have this striking space – I think one needs all the beauty one can get during the long winter days.
Looks like someone at he other end had the same idea as you. Looking up must be a bit dizzying. I like that the architect extended the curves to the far staircase. The black and white emphasizes the curvature, I think, and the building doesn’t appear to be very colorful. Very nice image, Jane.
Hi Steve, The circular staircase at the far end is fabulous, too. The idea to surround yourself with beautiful architecture while studying or relaxing is such a great message.
If you have a moment, it’s fun to google the building to see the other areas.
Glad you enjoyed this image– thanks so much.
Hi Samuel, I see you’re in Finland. We loved Helsinki and I wish we had more time there. The architecture is beautiful. Thanks so much for your visit here. 🙂
Scandinavia… one of the few places I’ve longed to visit. I did get a short stopover in Helsinki on my way to visit the land where I was born (Latvia) in 1989, while it was still Soviet. Pity I’ve sworn off flying these days. 😦
Thanks for sharing!

Makes me feel a bit claustrophobic. Is the ceiling as short as it appears in the photo?

Very striking, Jane, and including the people very much adds to it, as does the B+W. A 🙂

Maybe it’s local media saturation getting to me, but it appears to be a disassembled Guggenheim to me. Love it!

Cool! Looks like if you stand right under the center, you’ll get sucked up into the mother ship, or maybe teleported somewhere!
