Beautiful photos! They remind me of the first backpacking trip I took ever. I was lucky and had sunshine the whole time but the fog adds this moody feel to the place. Would like to go back when it is foggy.

truly wonderful/ the VW bug shot is my fav here.
the colors…
but each photo was so tasty.
and side note – we drove to Florida last month and three times I saw a man in old Corvette – had CA plates and he was in the panhandle – I WISH i grabbed a photo – that car on the highway and so far away from CA – would have been a nice shot – oh well…

Hi Yvette- Love that you spotted a Californian in a Corvette. A cross-country road trip! Happy you enjoyed these colorful photos…it was quite a day and that VW was such a gift. Thank you for stopping by! 🙂

ugh – and wish I grabbed a photo! the car was so small – no tinted windows – a bit of chrome – must have been in good shape to road trip that far

and the VW is also nice and moody with one surfboard – freedom and solitude vibe

I love it, Jane! You might guess my favorites – but maybe not. First, the Ice Plant and Driftwood – that one you guessed, right? California Livin’ for the fun of it, and perfect palette, Walk Into the Fog because I just love it! It’s nice to see the elk heard (a lot of males together!) and the plovers all facing the same direction (into the wind, I imagine) and that last image is the perfect finale. Beautiful!

OMG, Jane… that first shot put me right back to the days of traveling that very same coast in my orange VW bug… in way back times (1974+) 😀 You do the coast proud and capture it so well. It put me right back in the picture, so to speak.
As for other favorite images… the plovers made my heart sing to see so many spread out on the beach. The ice plants (esp. the 2nd shot) was sheer artistry! Then again so are all you images! You do make it hard to pick a favorite.

Hi Eliza, I was surprised how many trees were turning in Marin where it’s usually quite warm. Yes, perhaps the drought does hasten it. It is quite chilly on Point Reyes so that makes sense. It was so windy when we were there it was almost comical trying walk and shoot photos. Happy you enjoyed these…I love the ice plant, as you can see. Thank you!

Oh, that scenic California coast. You’re fortunate to have it so close at hand as a ready subject.
Three years ago I ran across an English version of the Camus quotation. I went hunting and finally tracked it down. It turned out to be from his 1944 play Le malentendu (The Misunderstanding), but the original is somewhat different from the various English versions I found online. In the play, the character Martha asks “Qu’est-ce que l’automne?” (“What is autumn?”). The character Jan replies: “Un deuxième printemps, où toutes les feuilles sont comme des fleurs.” (“A second spring, when all the leaves are like flowers.”) The version you found drops the question; gloms the two sentences together; changes the plurals to singulars; and omits the word comme (like) and the comma before it, thereby turning the original simile into a metaphor.
