  1. Beautiful photos! They remind me of the first backpacking trip I took ever. I was lucky and had sunshine the whole time but the fog adds this moody feel to the place. Would like to go back when it is foggy.

    • Hi Exploring CA, Sorry for my late reply to your wonderful comment- thanks so much. I was at Point Reyes yesterday and was looking back on this day. It’s a magical place! And it was pretty, pretty foggy! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Reblogged this on The Reluctant Poet and commented:
Come enjoy Jane’s wonderful photos of California!!

  3. You set me off on “California Dreaming”!! Loved your photos – Stunning!!! Ha, You make me miss my day trips to Tahoe, Napa Valley, SF, Reno!!! LOL!

  4. I never knew until recently how Ice Plant can really change color. Great captures Jane!

  5. That quote from Camus caught me off guard. I don’t know why… I guess, I never thought of him as romantic but the quote fits the scenery. Both are beautiful. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. truly wonderful/ the VW bug shot is my fav here.
    the colors…
but each photo was so tasty.
and side note – we drove to Florida last month and three times I saw a man in old Corvette – had CA plates and he was in the panhandle – I WISH i grabbed a photo – that car on the highway and so far away from CA – would have been a nice shot – oh well…

    • Hi Yvette- Love that you spotted a Californian in a Corvette. A cross-country road trip! Happy you enjoyed these colorful photos…it was quite a day and that VW was such a gift. Thank you for stopping by! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • ugh – and wish I grabbed a photo! the car was so small – no tinted windows – a bit of chrome – must have been in good shape to road trip that far
and the VW is also nice and moody with one surfboard – freedom and solitude vibe

  7. Looks a beautiful spot. Thank you for sharing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I really like your photos! Now I want to go to the beach!!

  9. Wow, Jane. Gorgeous colors, images. I especially love that first shot with the VW. The Camus quote is wonderful too! The 90mm is amazingly sharp. Great work!

  10. Your opening shot is such a perfect take on “California Living” but also very unique as well…love it. The post has a great end-of-summer feel ~ wishing you well.

    • Hi Randall, I wasnโ€™t expecting the coast to be in full autumnal mode and was thrilled. The VW was a gift along with the vibrant succulents. Thanks very much for enjoying and I hope you are doing well. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  11. That cliff picture is beautiful and so powerful.

  12. I love it, Jane! You might guess my favorites – but maybe not. First, the Ice Plant and Driftwood – that one you guessed, right? California Livin’ for the fun of it, and perfect palette, Walk Into the Fog because I just love it! It’s nice to see the elk heard (a lot of males together!) and the plovers all facing the same direction (into the wind, I imagine) and that last image is the perfect finale. Beautiful!

  13. I didn’t know that are had such pretty fall colors. It reminds me a little bit of the Alaskan tundra that turns to a sea of red. Nice captures.

  14. โ€œAutumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.โ€ No who can argue with that!!

The car (because its colours are echoed all round) is special, but then the vibrancy in every photo must be admired.

In the end after much debate between my left and right brain, dune and wave is my favourite

  15. OMG, Jane… that first shot put me right back to the days of traveling that very same coast in my orange VW bug… in way back times (1974+) ๐Ÿ˜€ You do the coast proud and capture it so well. It put me right back in the picture, so to speak.

As for other favorite images… the plovers made my heart sing to see so many spread out on the beach. The ice plants (esp. the 2nd shot) was sheer artistry! Then again so are all you images! You do make it hard to pick a favorite.

    • Hi Gunta, I love that it brought you back to your freewheeling VW bug days– although, you seem pretty freewheeling now, too. ๐Ÿ™‚ And, that the same scenes speak to us…I was thrilled to see that large flock of plovers. I had too long a lens on my camera to get them all. Really glad you enjoyed these nature moments. Thanks so much!

  16. You capture this are so well it just stops me in my tracks. Have you considered having a book made of your images? I would buy it in a heartbeat!

  17. gorgeous shots Jane!!! they truly are very soothing….just blown away by the colorful landscapes…WOW!!๐Ÿ˜œ

  18. Beautiful and like the Camus quote

  19. Lovely shots Jane. The opening shot is definitely my favourite – I remember seeing it on Instagram. How perfect is the colour of the VW in all its rusty glory for that landscape.

  20. Lovely! See you soon. Home Monday

    Sent from my iPad

  21. Nice wave action … I suppose you were reminded not to get too close to the waves washing ashore. ๐Ÿ™‚
The elk near the shore, good catch.

  22. Like a beautiful tapestry. I’m surprised the colors have turned already for you. I always thought your area was warmer. But perhaps dry conditions have hastened things?
Esp. love the driftwood and ice plant shot – gorgeous all!

    • Hi Eliza, I was surprised how many trees were turning in Marin where it’s usually quite warm. Yes, perhaps the drought does hasten it. It is quite chilly on Point Reyes so that makes sense. It was so windy when we were there it was almost comical trying walk and shoot photos. Happy you enjoyed these…I love the ice plant, as you can see. Thank you!

  23. Such beauty youโ€™ve captured in these landscapes!

  24. So wonderful to see Point Reyes again. The colors in the beetle/surfboard shot are so wonderful.

  25. How on earth did you manage to get that iconic Beetle in the exact matching colour to pass by at the right time? Or did you pay them to do so ๐Ÿ˜€
Fabulous autumn colours of a very different landscape – we are so used to seeing trees – so nice to see the coast.

  26. Wonderful pictures. The VW Beetle has arrived in the autumn of his life.

  27. The rosy Autumn colours are a bit special, Jane. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Love the red of the ice plant, Jane, and the red bug was a great bonus!

  29. Wonderful series! Great colors out there; love the one with the little birds in the front.

  30. What a lovely day, Jane! I, too, am drawn to the VW image–the car itself and those fall colors. You’ve captured the beauty and vastness of that area, just gorgeous.

  31. Absolutely phenomenal pictures, Jane!! Outstanding and breathtaking! Your “eye” is truly inspirational!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

  32. This makes me want to get straight in the car and drive there… even though I’d need a plane to cross the pond first.

  33. I like the beetle with the surf board! That’s a real great shot! Wonderful, dear Jane!

  34. Great images Jane, another set that bring back good memories of my visit to Northern CA.

  35. Oh my , oh my , that tantalising glimpse of a little wave, that perfect colour palette, your vision…it al boils down to pure delight.

  36. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for sharing these lovely images!
    Have a very HAPPY Sunday!
    Claudia ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. Love the harmoy in these shots, the soft but strong colours – and of course that little red bug…!

  38. Some lovely images, Jane! The VW Beetle is just the right colour!!

  39. I love the rich, rusty colours in these photos. And the beetle!

  40. Magical shots! The best time of year.

  41. These photos are breathtaking !!!

  42. Oh, that scenic California coast. You’re fortunate to have it so close at hand as a ready subject.

Three years ago I ran across an English version of the Camus quotation. I went hunting and finally tracked it down. It turned out to be from his 1944 play Le malentendu (The Misunderstanding), but the original is somewhat different from the various English versions I found online. In the play, the character Martha asks โ€œQuโ€™est-ce que lโ€™automne?โ€ (โ€œWhat is autumn?โ€). The character Jan replies: โ€œUn deuxiรจme printemps, oรน toutes les feuilles sont comme des fleurs.โ€ (โ€œA second spring, when all the leaves are like flowers.โ€) The version you found drops the question; gloms the two sentences together; changes the plurals to singulars; and omits the word comme (like) and the comma before it, thereby turning the original simile into a metaphor.

  43. I THINK I NEED TO GET RID OF MY LUXURY – ALMOST DRIVES ITSELF CAR – and make all the people who see me ( with my
BEETLE AND SURFBOARD on top HAPPY! or they may be saying what in the hell is that old bag roaring around in a beetle????? She must have escaped from the home!

  44. Jane, your amazing images absolutely present the thrill of this day.

  45. California Dreaming…perfect timing for a little red bug complete with surf board to drive by. Great shot.

  46. Some lovely paths Jane, but Iโ€™m ALL about the little red bug!!! Thanks for joining the challenge

  47. How incredibly beautiful, Jane! Those colours are breathtaking. What a beautiful series and that VW bug is perfection.

  48. Ps The boat aground in the extra set is eerily cool. Like the B&W version.

  49. That red bug looks just like the beat-up one I had in the early 70โ€™s. Maybe it is! Perfecto now toting a surfboard (I think?) rather than trying to push through east coast snow๐Ÿคฃ
Would be an awesome ad for CA Dreamin/Livin โ€˜

  50. Point Reyes is great. I’ve been hiking there multiple times.

  51. The VW bug captures this season in Pt Reyes perfectly, Jane. You have great photos of some of our favorite spots.

  52. So beautiful.
The picture with the Volkswagen is especially great. Could be from the 1970s. ๐Ÿ™‚

  53. Had to smile over the โ€œbeetleโ€ trucking down to road. Working our way to Kiawah today and a brand new convertible model passed us. Very snappy. Steve turn to me and said they are discontinuing the VW. I was sad! Such a part of Americana. Thanks for the refresh!!

  54. As always Jane, your work is fantastic. I envy your photography! โค๏ธ

  55. Hi jane, wonderful pictures from beach, my favorite is first one, i love the old rusty beetle.
    greetings robert

  56. Gorgeous images Jane ๐Ÿ™‚

  57. Lovely. Especially that car! ๐Ÿ˜

Love to hear what you think...
