Beautiful! Is this your husband, the man with the umbrella? Great model for the picture 🙂 😉 Have a fine day, Jane
Thank you, Heidi. No, that man just happened to pass by….my husband was waiting for me in the car…smart, given the weather. 😉 great to hear from you and hope you have a wonderful day, too!
This is a truly smashing shot. It reminds me of one shot of James Dean – do not ask who the photographer was!
Thanks so much, Arkenaten. I see what you mean.
Do you remember the James Dean photo I’m referring to?
I wish I could remember the photographer.
I think you mean the one where he’s walking in the rain in NY. It does have a similar feel!
Yes, that’s the one.
It was featured on a blog by another photographer I follow, Bill Jones jr. who, with his wife , wrote a history of Street Photography.
Here’s the link.

The entire series is fascinating and well worth a read.
Thanks so much for the info.
wow – I’m glad I’m inside. This really captures the moment!
One of the rare rainstorms in SF. Glad I pushed myself to get out. Happy you like it- thanks!
Amazing write-up!
Great shot!
Thank you so much, Rabirius. It was a great morning.
This is truly such a magnificent photograph, Jane.
Beautifully captured.
Thank you, Lisa. It was one of those exciting mornings of photography. 🙂
Wonderful treatment of this one Jane. Storytelling at its best
Thanks so much, T. That means a lot.
the mood here is just so soothing….love this…what a great feeling…so free…👍
Thank you, April. I felt cocooned under my umbrella taking in these marvelous scenes. Happy you enjoyed!
Amazing! What a wonderful mood and scene. Despite the rain you captured a really beautiful moment. Robert has right: it is still from a film noir. And it is definitively a great shot and still a fine study in black and white.
That means a lot to me, Stefan. Thank you. It was a black and white day full of these dramatic noir moments. Nice when that happens, isn’t it?
Great black and white.
Thanks very much, Drew.
Wow. Just gorgeous in every respect.
Thanks so much, Mari. Glad you like this image.
Still looks good in the rain. Or at least YOU make it look good. Great mood, great contrast and fabulous composition.
Thanks, Jude! What a gift this morning was. Happy you enjoyed this one.
A Lovely Contradiction -rather dreary environmental scene and tonality contrasts with such a smart, impressive composition!
Thank you, C.S. The whole morning was a study in monochrome contrasts. Happy you enjoyed this one!
Very nice composition
Thank you, Pauline. Have to admit a bit of luck was involved that I managed to catch him as he briskly passed by. 😉
Well done…
Trying to make out what sort of ‘hut’ that is. 🤔
Hi Gunta, It’s called the Warming Hut and it’s a small shop near the GG run by the Presidio Parks. I think this man ducking in there was the only customer in this storm. 😉
Judging by the look of that rain, a warming hut sounds like a great idea! 🔥
Indeed! I could’ve used a hot coffee…what we sacrifice for our art. 😁
Wow, what an impressive photo👍👍👍
I’m so glad you like it, Detlef. Thanks very much.
I love the moodiness of this shot. B & W is perfect for that. You can almost feel the wind and rain!
What a great compliment, Patti. I love that it brought you there. Thanks so much!
🙂 🙂
Amazing click Jane. The picture tells a beautiful story or many stories. 😊
Thank you, HOL. That’s what we hope for in an image. So glad you like it.
Perfect subject for black and white.
Thanks, Amy. It was a monochrome day.
Jane,
Absolutely beautiful. I love this!!!
Thanks so much, Helen!
I absolutely love the man walking in rain. It’s a perfect picture in my humble opinion. It’s gorgeous!!!!’
Sent from my iPhone
Thanks again, Helen! So glad your artistic eye enjoyed this one. 😄
Not really beach weather, is it? 😀
Haha, not that day, de Wets! Good day for ducks, though. Thanks for stopping by! 😁☔️
Going out into the rain was well worth it for this shot.
Thanks, Andy. It sure was…glad I pushed myself! Appreciate you stopping by.
This captures the mood of a rainy day down at the Warming Hut. Beautiful work, Jane.
Ω
Thanks, Allan. Means a lot. You know the spot well – not usually in a downpour. That was magical.
You did a splendid job of capturing the mood of a downpour at the Gate. Your photo says, “January” to me.
Ω
Hi Allan, You got it… one of the infrequent winter storms this past January. Not many opportunities like this these days. Thanks so much.
hello jane, what a wonderful photo i especially like the background with the golden gate bridge
greeting robert
Thanks very much, Robert. It was quite a morning for photography. Glad you enjoyed it.
I love the reflections and the mistiness.
Thanks so much, Ali. A perfect day for photography. 🙂
Marvellous work: first of all being there in that kind of weather and then having the knowledge to make the best of the given.
Thank you, Paula. There’s always a bit of luck involved and this day I found some. I got only one shot of this perfect specimen. Phew. 🙂
A wonderful picture this is! Every photographer should have a pool of volunteers going out in bad weather. And-ehm… a yes! Go out themselves as well! 🙂
Thanks, Peter! Despite the downpour, I found a number of people who weren’t afraid to walk in the rain. What a morning! 🙂
I like this one a lot.
Thanks so much, Sherry. It was a great morning of photography. Glad you like it.
Most atmospheric, and certainly more than a little ‘noir’, Jane!
Thanks, Sue. I think I’ve got a story starter here… glad you enjoyed!
Yay! Look forward to the story, in the fullness of time….
Robert Parker, below, gave it a good try!
Indeed!
Great atmosphere! I agree with Jane Iwan – – like a still from a film noir. “The gumshoe plodded through the driving rain toward the meet-up, one hand holding an umbrella to keep his deck of Luckies and the twenty large in his breast pocket dry, the other on the butt of the heater in his right coat pocket…”
Robert, This is a perfect narration. I love it! Thanks so much.
It’s a great shot
Love the mood of this. Has a noir feel.
Thanks, Jane. I agree. This day was a gift in its monochrome mood.
He looks lonely and cold. Nice work Jane. ❤️👍🏻
Hi John, He was heading into the coffee shop to warm up. I was cold and wet, but very happy. 🙂 Glad you like this one, thank you!
Ah, how I love the mood in this one –
Thanks so much, Ann-Christine. It was a great gift to find people walking in the rain here. 🙂
