  1. As usual, great photography work, Jane! My favorites are: “Bus Stop”, “Battery Door”, “Vines and Lines” and “Alley”.
    Warm regards, Heidi

  3. Wow, you are so talented, I’m inspired by your outstanding compositions! I’m your newest fan!

  4. Love it!
(We will come from the shadows… The partisan. Leonard Cohen)

  5. very Hitchcock….love the mood….just perfect!!

  6. Great series, Jane. I’d like to be up there taking a view and swing in your “Night Swing” shot. Excellent.

  7. Some fabulous shots – including vines and lines and those yellow shutters

  8. Vines and Lines! Love it! The amount of what’s beyond the windows that shows, in proportion to the vine-covered windows themselves, is perfection. Diagonals is also very nice, and Alley has a nice atmosphere. I like the chaos of Fence and the order of Mission Windows. And Night Swing – your nighttime photos are always beautiful, Jane.

    • Hi Lynn- Your reaction always means a lot. Thank you so much. It was fun putting these together. Night Swing was taken during a class at SF Art Institute – the campus is one of the prettiest locations in the city. Pleased you enjoyed this series. Vines and Lines is in the underground garage at the grocery store- beauty in the most unlikely places! 😊

  9. I recently read a book (Dante’s numbers) which starts off in Rome but then moves to San Francisco to spend 3/4 of the book there. The descriptions of buildings is so vivid that between your photos and that book I feel as if I have visited!
My favourite this time is the battery door being battered by shadows. An those shadows are powerful i.e. the holes in the door!

    • How wonderful, Abrie. Very cool that the two intersected and I’m happy that these helped paint the picture for you. The batteries along the cliffs are really interesting to photograph. Lots of worn textures and colors. Strange to imagine them in use. Thanks so much for enjoying and letting me know.

  10. Great ideas for each picture, right choose to black and white photograph.. very interest..!

  11. I really enjoyed this collection of interesting images Jane! My favourites would be Fort Point and Mission Windows. Best caption is “Vines and Lines”

  12. Everything tells a story.

  13. Oooh what lovely lines Jane. πŸ™‚ You have such a great eye.

  14. Simply great! Love those clean lines.

  15. Every picture in this series is like a staging of the different battles of the eternal war between light and darkness.

  16. Well done, Jane. Your use of shadows and lines is impressive.

BTW: I love the quote by Walker Evans.

    • Hi Allan, Thank you so much. I do love the challenge of looking for them in architecture around the city. I remember you like that quote from a previous time I used it. (I like to repeat) For me, there’s a direct earnestness that really rings true.

  17. Wish there were LOVE buttons instead of just LIKE.

  18. Night Swing is so impressive!
    Beautyful!!!

  19. You’ve nailed it Jane a gallery of images to share and stare at.

  20. Jane, just looking at your images is such a delight for my eye.

  21. You did it. Made me stop and stare. I can easily get lost in your images.

  22. What a collection of shadows and lines! Just awesome, Jane!

  23. Great collection of lines, Jane, and a nice tour through different parts of the city.

  24. All that accidental geometry. So intriguing. The quotes are great, too.

  31. Such a great eye for an image Jane, amazing.

  32. These are terrific – I especially like the vines on fences and windows.
I’ve never visited SF, but I looked up Fort Point – – are the shadows in the first shot, from the Golden Gate Bridge?

    • Thanks very much, Robert. So glad you enjoyed this series. Yes, indeed, those shadows are from the girders under the bridge. One of my favorite places to catch some great shadow play. Hope you get there someday soon. πŸ™‚

  33. I love seeing through your eyes, Jane. Cool shots all. ‘Mission Windows’ is especially neat with the yellow and blue.

  34. How wonderful! I got a weak heart for bus stops, and this stop is truly great, the wavy roof and the shadows. Awww. Vines and lines is also a favorite. The appartment building through the opened window!

    • Thank you, Peter, for your enthusiastic response. Much appreciated! I have been working on a Bus Stop project for a while now– I do love the wavy roof line…and they are red. πŸ™‚

  35. Super pictures, Jane! Another face of San Francisco.

  36. Lovely photography Jane! ❀️

  37. Such a nice series here !!!

Beautiful images for the theme πŸ™‚

  38. What an amazing post. Really liked the Fence abstract and the play of shadows in Vines and Lines.

  39. Geometry lives here, conveyed in shadows and light.
