Haha – I remember the shot your husband took of you in the middle of surf, trying to protect your camera! You sure go to great lengths to get the shot!!
Hi Noortje, It’s great how many moods there are of the GG and I love capturing them The winter is great for this kind of wave action. So glad you like it in black and white. Thank you!
I believe I stood in that spot when we visited San Francisco in October of 2016. The water then was calm. How often does it get as turbulent as you recorded it in your picture?
Hi Steve, I’m sure you did if you toured around the bridge. This is on the road to Fort Point which is at the base of the GG near Crissy Field. The winter brings huge swells and great wave action along the coast. I’ve seen waves crash all the way across the road surprising and soaking unsuspecting tourists. It’s also the a coveted place for surfers. Glad this brought back good memories.
I remember that road. I’m amazed that waves could crash all the way across it and get to tourists. I didn’t get a dramatic picture like yours but I avoided getting my camera soaked.
In contrast, one time in the 1970s I was at the shore on the west side of San Francisco when a rogue wave came out of nowhere and doused me and my equipment. I spent the next 20 minutes drying everything off. As you know, salt water is no friend to cameras and lenses.
Yes, splash on me, I can resist you! π Spectaculair photo shot, Jane!
Warm regards, Heidi

Glad you didn’t go down with that rogue wave, Steve. I’ve learned to never turn my back on the ocean. Perhaps you saw this post where I apparently forgot that rule…
