Treasuring Nature on the California Coast

I wish that all of nature’s magnificence, the emotion of the land, the living energy of place could be photographed.Β

  1. Gosh, what would Ansel Adams say now . . . . ? Love the fresh air and warmth in these great shots!

  2. I enjoy seeing the visual variety in your area. Excellent images!

  3. So lovely Jane and yes what we are doing to our planet and living things is undeniably tragic. It breaks my heart.

  4. Beautiful, particularly hints of colour and sunshine. Beautiful, and unfortunate, quotes.

  5. Well done Jane – loved them all, esp the headlands shots. And great find on the quote!

  6. Beautiful series of images, Jane!
Those little seals just melt my heart.

    • Hi Lisa, Thanks! It has been great fun exploring after the rain let up. Nature is coming to life. Those “little” seals are amazing and the males pictured can weight up to 4,500 lbs and grow to 13 feet. They are enormous which is hard to tell in these images. I caught their sweeter side. πŸ˜„ The pups are quite cute!

  7. What a lovely lot of animals you managed to see at Point Reyes! Longing to return to the area and soak in all that greenery.

  8. Goodness, Jane! I’d spend my whole time at Point Reyes saying “Oh my gosh how beautiful / wonderful / stunning / incredible” (choose your adjective) πŸ™‚

  9. Gorgeous shots, Jane. Now you’ve given me more places to go on our road trip to CA. Point Reyes is spectacular.

  10. What a beautiful gallery of the California coast, Jane. Your photos capture it perfectly. πŸ™‚

  11. What a beautiful area Jane; you have captured it well!

  12. Lovely critters all of them so wonderful…beautiful terrain…lovely post Jane ☺

  13. “Exhilaration” is the first word that came into my head looking at these wonderful images.

  14. You’ve got all European landscapes down there in America πŸ˜‰

  15. We do live on an amazing planet. Why we want to screw it up, and for a buck, I will never know. Makes me wonder about all those who want to take this planet and turn it into a drab, ugly place that they will give to their grandchildren. Sad. It is so so sad.

    • I couldn’t agree more, Don. It is hard to understand especially the denial that is going on. Very depressing. My hope is that photography documents and provides awareness and appreciation of the gifts around us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  16. How many times can I say: wow!

  17. Amazing and elegant images – just walking to Paradise…

  18. Excellent! Love your subjects and being on the receiving end of your gift for composing environmental images!

  19. Gorgeous photos as always, Jane. The ones in Pt. Reyes are spectacular.

  20. Superb series, Janet. Makes me miss California a lot, so far Oregon is not the same πŸ˜‰ Have a good weekend! Marcus

  21. Wonderful photos, a real treat to see!

  22. I love it I had to send another message I cannot get over your photos just so awesome. You put me oj my vacation

  23. The repetitiveness of the Lesser Scaups and the singularity of the Snowy Plover jumps out at me. It also reminds of picture drawn of a penquin, a zebra and dalmation on an all white snow filled background with the black areas already filled in. The caption is: “coloring picture for lazy people”

  24. Hi Jane interesting landscape pictures i have two favrites it is nr. 5th and 6th.

  25. Lovely images. Such a beautiful area. (Suzanne)

  26. Wonderful photo gallery, Jane. Nature is so amazing. We must treasure and preserve it for posterity.

  27. What a great cross section of photos… looks like everyone was a willing participant that day!

  28. Great set off images, brought back some lovely memories of Northern California from a holiday in the early1990’s. I was totaly amazed by the elephant seals at Point Reyes, in fact I was amazed at all of Northern California. :>)

    • Thanks Coronet! There’s so much natural beauty around us, isn’t there? Glad you enjoyed my walks along the coast…will be hoping for some more elephant seals soon. I saw some cute sea otters today. πŸ™‚ Appreciate your visit here.

  29. Beautiful photos and that looked like a nice day outside indeed.

  30. What gorgeous photos of Bodega Bay and its creatures. Still smiling from the last shot. It looks as if the elephant seal posed for you.

    • Hi Jane, We’ve thought of you a lot this week while hiking in these spots- good memories. It’s been gorgeous. Glad you like the elephant seal portrait…it sure doesn’t show how huge this guy is…he was feisty, too. Thanks so much.

  31. Lesser Scaup..that’s a new one to me. Must have been so fun to see those seals sparring. Nice ones, Jane.

  32. Another most gorgeous series. You have got it all there in CA! xx

    • Hi Paula, Thank you! We’ve been taking lots of day trips up and down the coast since the rain stopped. Happy you are enjoying my adventures. πŸ˜‰ Can’t wait for the wildflowers to make their appearance.

  33. Truly stunning work, Jane. The world needs you and and all of us to be the Ansels of today since the fight to save all this is only going to intensify.

  34. What a beautiful looking place πŸ˜„

  35. Always enjoy “visiting” California with you. You’re so talented. Thanks for sharing. Hope to truly visit in August.

    • HI Leslee, We had such a great time together when we went to Point Reyes! Looking forward to the next time. So glad these brought back some good memories- thanks very much and hope you and Ed are doing well. πŸ™‚

  36. So fascinating!!! Loving the elephant seals… gorgeous!!

    • Hi April, They were so active and incredible. Loping around chasing one another, barking and grunting. The images don’t really convey how huge they are. We figured that were sparring over the nearby female who made her getaway to the ocean while this was happening. Glad you enjoyed this set…thanks so much!

  37. the last photo w/ the caption was perfect

  38. You hit the jackpot with the wildlife! Awesome shots!

  39. Your lens captures the grandeur of the world around you. πŸ™‚

  40. Would hit LOVE LOVE LOVE on the buttons if I could. So amazing…the images…and what they’re all about. Your perspective. Quotes too. Everything.

  41. Wow, I am amazed by your talent!

  42. Beautiful, Jane. Thank you for enriching my day.

  43. Jane, these are awesome! Love the wildlife, the beautiful cliffs, the plants and birds (what kind of ducks are those – they’re beautiful!
Have I covered everything???? it’s been so warm here, the hooded mergansers were here for just a few days and then no more sightings!
    Great photos!

    • Hi Mary Lynn, Thanks so much! We finally had a break in the weather and boy, did the coast shine!Looked up the duck-it is a Lesser Scaup. Glad you’re having some great sightings, too. Hope all is well in your world. xo

  44. Great set of images — as usual! I was struck by looking at the images and seeing layer after layer of beach or rocks or plants or …

  45. Such beautiful photography Jane! β€οΈπŸ™Œ
